Abstract:

The schools in Taiwan had promoted the environmental education for many years. The environmental education in the primary schools was paid attention and had prosperous outcomes. But, in the middle schools, the environmental education efforts seemed declining. There was little study about the environmental education in the middle schools. This research adopted qualitative method and interviewed with the school teachers to explore the status of environmental education with the whole school approach in the middle schools of Taiwan. This research finds the middle schools put efforts on daily life to save resources. The management of school ground exist contestation between ecological function and manmade scenery. The environmental education in the middle school can be infused into curriculum with many opportunities. The level of implementation of environmental education in the schools depends on the level of the administrator support, teacher participation and their environmental literacy.
